Toys R Us Canada sued over unpaid rent. Toronto budget holds 2.2% tax increase, freezes TTC fares.

A landlord has filed suit against Toys R Us Canada, alleging the retailer failed to pay rent at the Lawrence Allen Centre in Toronto. RioCan says it followed through with its threat on January 20 after the company missed a payment.

Mayor Olivia Chow unveiled the city's 2026 budget, maintaining a 2.2% property tax increase while freezing TTC fares. The police department received a significant boost, with a $93.8 million increase for police, bringing the TPS budget to $1.43 billion. The budget also extends library hours and funds student nutrition programs.
