Winnipeg School Division reinstates full-time kindergarten at six schools. Muslim-produced animated film launches across North America.

The Winnipeg School Division will reinstate full-time kindergarten programs at six schools beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. Superintendent Matt Henderson stated the initiative aims to assist families experiencing financial hardship and insufficient childcare access while providing equitable educational opportunities for children.

The six participating schools are Dufferin, Lord Nelson, Machray, Ralph Brown, Rockwood, and Weston. Selection was based on individual school needs and capacity assessments.

The division had discontinued all-day kindergarten following the 2022-23 school year. However, Henderson emphasized the program's importance as support for both child development and parental needs. Approximately $300,000 has been allocated for this expansion, with registration opening on February 17.

Time Hoppers: The Silk Road has launched in Canadian theaters as the first Muslim-produced animated children's film distributed throughout North America. Winnipeg families who attended screenings praised the film for offering rare representation in Muslim children's media.
